Scribbles: Chrome tab grouping

I recently came across with new tab grouping in chrome and had few thoughts around it.

Grouping and organizing tabs are great ways to declutter my chrome browsing experience, but it was hectic for me to manually tag every tab to a group. I started thinking of other ways to group them logically and to reduce time in grouping my tabs.

Group by similarity

What if there was an option to group similar URLs. This auto-grouping method will help users do the first-level grouping.

Why?: a quick way to declutter.

Group by usage

Not sure if this would make sense, but if I could read the usage pattern, can I group my work-related tabs automatically every single time?

Why?: Automation reduces the amount of time it takes me to group these manually.

Group details on hover

Google minimizes all the tabs when grouped. Would be cool to see those minimized tabs details on hover. Why?: I don’t have to maximize these groups every single time to open a particular tab.

What else would make sense?

  • Save tab groups - would make sense to someone launching the same set of URLs everyday.

  • Auto launch the tab group during chrome restart(?)

  • Send tab group to mobile - (not sure if this would have any USP).

Chrome Team has done an amazing job and might have looked at all these approaches as well. These are mostly thoughts that ran through my head when i saw this feature.
